A Mere Phantom

Books shapes destiny, it makes a fool knowledgeable.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we want to celebrate the life of a very unique author,  a woman who dare to speak when others cower in the shadows of fear and cowardice.

A woman who decided to speak against  the oppression of blacks in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama.  She won over many skeptics and critics, gaining a mountain of enemies in the process and admirers in thousands. We’re talking about no other person than American Author, Harper Lee, who wrote ‘To kill A Mocking Bird.’ She won the 1961 Pulitzer prize for her effort and though she never another novel again, she has received several awards and honorary degrees for the message she conveyed through her novel.

According to an interview, Lee’s close friend, Rev. Dr. Thomas Lane Butts granted a British newspaper, Rev. Butts revealed that Lee told him why she never wrote again, “Two reasons: one, I wouldn’t go through the pressure and publicity I went through with To Kill A Mockingbird for any amount of money. Second, I have said what I wanted to say and I will not say it again.”

Life is a mere phantom but there are some people whose breath lingered on even after they are gone. To all women of courage world-wide, we salute you!
